Oregon Humane Society

The OHS fosters an environment of respect, responsibility and compassion for all animals through education, legislative action and leadership. In 1994 the Society reached more than 20,000 people through its education programs, the Animal Assitsted Therapy program in hospitals and rest homes, and community outreach efforts.

In 1994 the Society received over 15,901 animals of which 11,269 were adoptable dogs and cats. Over 80% of adoptable dogs and 38% of adoptable cats found new homes. OHS expends substantial efforts to reduce pet overpopulation through education and spay/neuter assistance and loan programs.

More than 3,000 people received some form of assistance from the Society's Investigations Department in 1994. Over 1,000 cases of animal neglect or abuse were investigated during 1994.

The OHS is a nonprofit organization supported solely by donations from the public. The Society receives no government or United Way funding.
